Frequently asked questions
How much can I compress an image?
Photos usually shrink by 60–85% at quality 75–85 with no visible difference. Screenshots and graphics compress best as WebP or lossy PNG.
Will compression reduce quality?
Lossy compression removes some detail, but at quality 75 or above the difference is rarely visible. Use the before/after slider to check, or choose lossless mode.
Can I compress an image to an exact size, like 100 KB?
Yes. Enter the target size in KB and PhotoTools finds the highest quality that fits. If needed it can also reduce the dimensions.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
